Betty Curse will be distraught to hear it, but her music is what Busted would have sounded like, had they been born girls – teen pop-punk but with the nude-lady obsession exchanged for blood, gore and eyeliner.
Aged 19, Betty is a Goth – but not in the outcast style of previous generations. Her Goth shtick is entwined with high-street fashion, Donnie Darko, and retro erotica – she's a fan of Betty Page and "Parisian prostitutes from the 1900s" – as well as the internet (Miss Curse being something of a MySpace queen).
While one can all too easily imagine her saying "graveyards are such a cool place to meet guys", her official biography colourfully claims that she "wandered out of a graveyard mist, naked and feral, gnawing on the innards of a hand-slaughtered wolf." They don't sell them in Sainsbury's – but maybe they will soon.

I didn’t stopped anyone from listening to her, did I? Everyone can absolutely choose what they want to listen to. So you don’t have to be so upset. I never said you can’t listen to her.
And JUST so you know, she doesn’t claim she wants to die. That little extract you’ve got there is some SHIT which doesn’t understand Betty or her image at all. It’s a JOKE that thing about the graveyard. Why do people take themselves and everything around them so seriously? And where does it say anywhere she wants to die?
I’m probably being hypocritical saying everyone else is taking themselves seriously when I’ve taken this so seriously…
But I’m sorry, this does annoy me when I don’t think you’ve taken the time to look into Betty properly. You’re just slagging her off because, from the small amount of imformation I have on you which is just what’s in your ABOUT thing, you seem incredibly “Gother than thou”. It’s as annoying as when people took the piss out of Avril without giving her a fucking chance. She never did anything to everybody so all the little girls who loved Green Day turned on her because they think insulting Avril makes them more punk. Well, it doesn’t. And insulting Betty doesn’t make you any more Goth either.

I think it’s good that people like Betty are taking their time to experiment with the subculture. If she wants to make pop music and dress how she likes to dress (she has a fucking great fashion sense I might add) and have a bloody awesome image…well, then good for her. She has a better image than most of the “Gothic” bands nowadays. And her music’s better than a lot of them too. I wish people could be more open-minded to experimenting with stuff like cultures and styles. I mean, it’s just as annoying when people who think they’re SO oldskool even though they’re like 11 so it’s a complete joke that they only listen to ancient music take the piss out of bands like Within Temptation coz they have a Gothic image but aren’t Gothic music.
